Intermittent Explosive Disorder is described as impulsive (or anger-based) aggressive outbursts that last for usually less than 30 minutes. The outburst requires little to no provocation. Children should not be clinically diagnosed with this disorder if they are younger than 6 years old, although symptoms can be present before diagnosable age.

Symptoms:
- Temper tantrums, fights, or aggression toward animals happening twice a week on average in the last 3 months. This is happening without damaging property or injuring people or animals.
- At least 3 outbursts that does damage or injure someone or something in the last year
- Extremely overreacting in anger in proportion to its cause
- Outbursts cause negative consequences to the child
